How far we've come

As we approach the end of the semester and our senior year, members of our cohort have all been thinking about quite a nerve wracking uncertainty - what’s next? How can we take everything we have learned and experienced and turn it into something great? We have studied many different frameworks and theories, worked hard, earned leadership positions, and engaged in experiential learning opportunities. These discussions are comparable to those we are having in class regarding outcomes in grant writing and philanthropy.

What are we putting into our programs and ideas with grant funding, and what types of outcomes can we get with them? Just how far can we go?

My brain is not very mathematically oriented. I am much more of a socio-emotional thinker than a science based analyzer. I would rather debate than have a set right answer. Objectives and outputs during grant writing takes the humanizing, social aspect of human services and puts it into numbers and measurements. We spoke about how they must be clear, specific, measurable, and realistic. This room full of idealistic dreamers has had to take a step back and think about how exactly we can record and set goals.

I'm hoping all of this learning about outcomes, inputs, outputs, and even job position qualifications, will help us write the best grant proposals for these agencies. I am looking forward to continuing to learn with these incredible, motivated people.
