Dr. Warner had us guess the information from the National Philanthropic Trust Organization about how much money is given in philanthropy per year (in recent years). We guessed numbers from the millions to 20 billion. We were all happily shocked when the actual number actually turned out to be over $410 billion. Dr. Warner also shared some powerful quotes with us. The one that struck me the most was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s quote “Philanthropy is commendable, but it must not cause the philanthropist to overlook the circumstances of economic injustice which make philanthropy necessary.” It is important to always stay aware of the inequity in our society and work towards making macro level change while also helping people to meet their immediate needs. I have attached videos of two students sharing what they

are most excited about for this class!
